Warriors train out of sight
The two players missing were West Ham United goalie Shaka Hislop who was excused due to club commitments and Glasgow Rangers defender Marvin Andrews who arrives tomorrow.
Skipper Dwight Yorke and the rest of the players were in a jovial mood as they assembled for the first time as a team since their 2-0 win over Iceland in London, England, on Carnival Tuesday.
Some of the players have been nack home since last week with others expected over the weekend including Carlos Edwards, Cornell Glen, Ian Cox and Avery John.
The others in camp include Russell Latapy, Anthony Wolfe, Stern John, Silvio Spann, Chris Birchall, Brent Sancho, Kelvin Jack, Clayton Ince, Aurtis Whitley, Cyd Gray, Anthony Rougier, Dennis Lawrence, Atiba Charles, Densill Theobald, Kenwyne Jones, Jason Scotland and Collin Samuel. The squad will train this morning at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, in a closed-door session with the official team photo shoot being conducted ahead of the actual training. The media however will be allowed to interact with head coach Leo Beenhakker in the evening session.
Luton’s Edwards spoke yesterday about the match on Wednesday against Peru, the last competitive encounter for the Soca Warriors before they leave for Europe and the World Cup Finals in Germany.
“It’s always a nice time for all of us when we can get together as a team again and it’s been a couple months since we last did this. This one is a little bit different because we are at home and we know the mood is a bit heavy and the match will be an exciting one too with all the hype around it.
This time we are playing a training match ahead of the World Cup and it’s not like say a qualifying match so the nerves will be a little bit less tense,” Edwards said.
