Team benefiting from Lequay’s absence
West Indies cricket has reached a stage where it is in the throes of hosting the 2007 World Cup event and an interim captain is needed. Other prospects for the poisoned plum of captaincy are simply not ready for the task one way or the other.
Wavell Hinds (of Jamaica), who opened the batting with his compatriot Chris Gayle, is yet to cement his place in the regional side. Daren Ganga, the successful Trinidad and Tobago captain, looks more confident as a number three batsmen than as an opener. He too has to be more regular in the West Indies team.
Ramnaresh Sarwan is going to be given a second chance as the vice-captain in order to prove that he is responsible. He has to regulate his shot selections. Dinesh Ramdin has proven in the last regional game against Barbados that he can make amends for his mistakes behind the stumps and he too has to check up on his batting.
Sylvester Joseph of Antigua has proven himself as a leader when the West Indies “A” team beat its English opponents convincingly, yet ht need more time as a regional player as well.
