Mikela throws hat into political ring

Addressing scores of supporters at Rio Claro Junction, Panday said the time had come for the nation’s young people to “unite with one thunderous voice.” She also demanded equality of treatment from the nation’s leaders.

She said many young people had become caught in the cycle of poverty with their only source of income coming from menial jobs in URP and CEPEP.

“Are you satisfied with the quality of life in this our beautiful country? Are you satisfied with the system of education? We are not empty bottles to be filled, but candles to be lit. Let us mobilise and exercise change,” she said.

Meanwhile, UNC deputy political leader Austin Jack Warner was accosted on his way to the platform by someone Warner later described as an “old white Englishman,” who was brought into the country to “try and further harass and intimidate me,” on the eve of today’s friendly international match against Peru at the National Stadium.

“No foreigner will come to my country, particulary a foreigner and try to harass me, intimidate me and push me around,” Warner said.

Warner also called the recent happenings within the Opposition party as a “blessing in disguise” saying the UNC would “confound its opponents,” whenever an election is called. Also addressing the meeting was vice-chairman, Vasant Bharat and Nariva MP, Harry Partap.
