TT producer completes movie in Guyana

In a telephone conversation from New York where he lives, he said the cast and crew of Rainbow Raani spent the last three weeks filming the sexy comedy across Guyana and soaking up local culture and cuisine as well.

“The cameras explored everywhere from the Botanical Gardens to Tiger Bay before taking up residence in the mining town of Linden where several scenes were shot. Filming wraps up in New York over the next few days then it’s over to dubbing, editing and mixing and it will take some time before the film is ready for screening,” Kumar said.

Manager Pradeep Samtani disclosed that the soundtrack for the film, which includes work from calypsonian Sparrow, is complete.

“Sparrow does the title track for the film and it is great,” Kumar said.

During filming the cast members got their fill of Guyana and fell in love with the country. When the cameras were not rolling, they journeyed around and interacted with locals, which he said was a wonderful experience for them.

But the greatest excitement of it all, Samtani said, was the people of Guyana who came out to support the film on location no matter where they were. He said people just came out and stayed for a greater part of the filming despite the fact that one scene sometimes took about six hours to wrap between takes.

Perhaps the most memorable day of filming was when South African beauty queen Olive Gopaul, who had a small role in the film, shot her scene on location at the Botanical Gardens.

“What a day that was. People actually thought she had committed suicide and called the police. We had police (actors) there too so when the real guys came it was hysterical,” Samtani related.

With all the buzz she created with such a small role, he said, he believed Gopaul had real a shot in the film industry.

Samtani said Rainbow Raani went over its budget, which was unavoidable since there were several retakes for various scenes. However, he said, every penny spent was worth it and now everyone is looking forward the day of the film’s release.

Rainbow Raani is centred around Raaja (Prashant Kumar), Rodney (Sincee Daniels), Raani (Manvi Dhoopar) and Naomi (Pascale Piquion). Raaja and Rodney are part of a band called the Rainbows and they are looking for a break to go to the US because they feel that only there their potential can blossom.

Rainbow Raani is a film about diversity in culture and ethnicity as much as it is about friendship, love and relationships. In the final analysis, it reveals that the higher conscience of a human being is what dictates destiny.
