LOC hosts foreign media
Master of ceremonies and cultural liaison officer attached to the LOC, Terry Joseph, told the gathering that it was the largest voluntary collection of foreign media to visit our shores for an event.
That media comprised more than 50 people from around the world including the United Kingdom, France, Wales, Iran, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan, China and other Caribbean islands.
The foreigners also included Prince Maurits of Netherlands, in his capacity as marketing manager from the Phillips Company for the TT Football team, Peter Hargitay, special adviser to FIFA’s president and a member of the Jamaican Reggae Boyz. The evening started off with the World Steelband Music Festival champion, Exodus, that gave its audience a lively half hour of music of all genres while female masqueraders danced their way into the crowd handing out bags of goodies courtesy the Tourism Development Company (TDC) to the foreign media.
They were followed by a display of the Paramin Blue Devils that had some people evading the fire that the devils generously blew into the air before the house deejay played some songs in tribute to the Soca Warriors.
An energetic dance from the Shiv Shakti Dancers preceded a Trinidad All Stars DVD of their own Soca Warriors’ tribute before National Limbo Queen, Kimmie Stoute-Batson did her thing.
It was during her performance that members of the foreign media got into the act, testing their own limbo skills. But not to be outdone, FIFA Vice-President Jack Warner showed his guests who was the boss.
Here are some highlights of the event.
