Police have identified the victims as Kevin Hosein, 20, of Southern Main Road, California in Couva and Shashtri Seetaram, 26, of Chickland Village in Freeport. Another occupant of the vehicle Narish Ramlogan, 23, of Indian Trail, Chaguanas, was up to yesterday warded in critical condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mt Hope.
The incident occurred at 11:40 pm along the Uriah Butler Highway. Hosein was reportedly driving along the south-bound lane of the highway when on reaching Rex Car Services, the report stated, he apparently was given a “bad drive” by a vehicle which had attempted to overtake him.
Hosein lost control and crashed into a light pole. He died on the spot while Seetaram succumbed to his injuries yesterday at the EWMSC.
When Newsday visited Hosein’s relatives at King Village yesterday, parents Califf and Lystra Hosein were too traumatised to speak. Relatives of Seetaram also declined to speak to the media about the accident.
However, Newsday learnt Seetaram’s death is the second in the family in two weeks. Seeteram, Newsday learned, came from the United States to attend his grandfather’s funeral.
