Son of Charismatic to race at Santa Rosa

The chestnut gelding by Open Forum/Power Beach with the tongue-twisting name, Ahsenoryougowahaca has joined trainer Bobby Persad’s barn.

And added to Persad’s string which has now swelled to 23, is the fashionably-bred bay colt Speeking In Parables. Persad said yesterday, he personally bred Speeking In Parables in Kentucky. This bay colt is by Kentucky Derby winner Charismatic out of Highland Crystal who at one time held the track record for 1800 metres (nine furlongs) at Gulfstream Park.

Charismatic, ridden by Chris Antley, won the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in 1999, beating Manifee and Cat Thief.

Both horses are among 12 nominated for the Imported Three-year-old Sprint Stakes to be run off on June 19.

Persad has four runners nominated for the race including Lekh Raj and Wild About Becca who returned to racing on Saturday last after a five-month lay off.

When second subscriptions were taken, 12 horses were left in for a total of $8,400.Third and final subscription for this race becomes due on June 7. Meanwhile, there are 10 runners left in for the Eric “Colt” Durant Memorial Handicap over 1700 metres to be run on May 30. Third and final subscriptions of $300 for this race will be due on May 17.
