Man charged with murder of MP's aunt

Kazim Mohammed of Retrench Village, San Fernando appeared before deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Police Court. Mohammed is the third man to be charged with the murder of school teacher Samdaye Nanan, 54.

She was the proprietress of the gas station at St Charles Village, Princes Town. Nanan was gunned down on September 7, 2005, while driving along the M2 Ring Road, Ste Madeleine, after closing the gas station for the day.

Mohammed, along with two other men — Randy Mohammed, 21, and Gibrail Khan, 21, both of Thompson Gardens, Ste Madeleine, were also charged with the murder. Mohammed (Randy) and Khan had appeared in court on May 6, to answer the charge of killing Nanan.

Dressed in a blue jersey and jeans yesterday Mohammed (Kazim) remained silent when Magistrate Wellington read the charge that he together with Mohammed (Randy) and Khan, murdered Nanan.

Nanan was a teacher at Springvale Primary Hindu School The case was then adjourned to May 19, the same day the other accused men will reappear in court on the charge.
