11 babies
ELEVEN babies were born at major institutions across Trinidad and Tobago up to press time. The first on record was a baby girl at the Mt Hope Women’s Hospital. Matron Ivy Thompson could not give the exact number of births for the day, but noted that the first was a girl born at 12.17 am.
The other ten babies were born at the Port-of-Spain and San Fernando General Hospitals — five at each institution.
The first born baby at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital came into this world at 4.05 am, a girl, delivered by 23-year-old Jozanne Lynch.
It was the second child for Lynch and her boyfriend Daniel Corbin, 25.
Corbin, who learnt of the birth from Newsday, expressed elation at the birth of a girl on Mother’s Day. He said the birth on the day was significant and very special, explaining that since his mother passed away two years ago, he wanted a girl. Since that dream has come through on Mother’s Day, he has decided to name the baby after his mother — Jocelyn.
“Right now I’m in my glee. I feel complete now with this girl,” he said.
Speaking with Lynch, who had a normal delivery, she agreed on the name and planned to spend the rest of the day relaxing after getting over the surprise of being the first woman to deliver a baby at the PoS institution on Mother’s Day.
