Jury told, fingerprints found

Ragbir, 48, also known as “Kitch” was found on November 3, 2002, next to his car downstairs his home at Antoine Trace Extension, Quarry Village in Siparia. He died from multiple stab wounds to the neck.

Nemai testified before Justice Herbert Volney in the San Fernando First Criminal Court yesterday that at about 4.30 am on November 3, 2002, he checked Ragbir’s car for fingerprints and developed three sets of “workable prints,” taken from various areas of the glass on the right car door. He explained that “workable fingerprints” meant that there were sufficient details in the fingerprints to make an identification. The policeman also testified that he observed blood on the right front panel inside the car and on a back rest covering the right front seat.

During his testimony, State prosecutor Joan Honore-Paul tendered a post mortem report and the two certificates of analysis into evidence. Also testifying was Ragbir’s friend Nisha Sookgrim, who was the last person to see him alive.

Sookgrim admitted to a judge and jury that she had gone “for drinks” with Ragbir hours before he was found murdered. However, Sookgrim, 32, denied that she had an affair with the deceased.
