Environmentalists blocking better life in La Brea
La Brea is now the area of great industrial development through LABIDCO and now the Union Industrial Estate. During the UNC era none of these plants were established in La Brea. Norsk Hydro, a smelter plant was proposed.
Mr Panday, the then Prime Minister was in high praise of it, saying “In addition to the multiplier effects in terms of indirect employment creation, this investment would facilitate the expansion eastwards of the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, an expansion of port and marine infrastructure and the increased sale of natural gas.
Another significant benefit of this smelter plant investment is the long-term commitment to the economy of Trinidad and Tobago with plant life exceeding 40 years.
“This will of course require a long-term demand for new skills and human resource training.”
One only has to travel between Claxton Bay and Couva to notice vast transformation of the area, in terms of business which will attest to the prosperity of the people.
Why then is it that so-called environmentalists, people who have not shown any interests in La Brea would wish to deny the people a better life.
Are they dissatisfied that the young people in La Brea are not killing each other?
The opportunities are there now for the young people of La Brea and they should be allowed to make use of that without hindrance.
