Emily’s MP calls for child protection
Condemning the brutal murder of four-year-old Emily Anamanthodo at her Marabella home, Lucky said there is a lack of foster homes to cater for the increasing rise of child abuse in the society.
Expressing concerns about the increasing number of children who are being abused in their homes, Lucky said Government needs to ensure the appropriate infrastructure is put in place to accommodate battered children.
“We need to go back to the days of effective and efficient community policing.
“Greater emphasis must be placed in the social services division,” stated Lucky, in whose constituency, the child lived.
In most cases, the MP added, abused children who are placed in special homes are eventually returned to the place where the abuse took place.
“There are no proper facilities or accommodations for those children,” Lucky said.
Lucky said that she hoped the child’s death will serve as a wake up call to those in authority to provide greater protection for the young and vulnerable.
