Mark Rattan murder inquiry
ONE witness gave evidence yesterday at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court during the preliminary inquiry into the murder of 18-year-old medical student Mark Rattan.
PC Steven Jerome of the Maloney Police Post gave evidence before Magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes in the First Court.
Jerome was cross-examined by senior counsel Theodore Guerra who questioned whether the evidence given by Jerome was ever recorded in his pocket diary, or whether it was all from memory.
Jerome was then cross-examined by attorney Colin Selvon.
Appearing in the court were Christopher James, of Building 12, Maloney Gardens, and Keith Bryan Thomas, of Spring Valley, Mt D’or in Champ Fleurs, who are both charged with Rattan’s killing.
Rattan, the son of Dr Dipchand Rattan, who lives at Ridgewood Terrace, Santa Margarita, St Augustine, was allegedly murdered by the two men on December 26.
Rattan sustained several stab wounds to the body and was beaten before his body was dumped in a drain near the Caura Hospital.
State attorney Denise Badrie told the magistrate there were still ten witnesses outstanding.
James was represented by Guerra, while Thomas was represented by Selvon. The matter was adjourned to May 25.
