Joe Public come from behind

CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, who shared the lead with the “Eastern Lions” entering Tuesday’s eighth round of action, was held to a goalless draw by United Petrotrin at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground.

Jabloteh dropped to third on the standings with 17 points, while National Quarries North East Stars climbed to second spot, after they got past reigning champs W Connection 2-1 at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

Defence Force won their fourth straight match — following two in the Pro Bowl and another in the League — when they edged Superstar Ran-gers 1-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima while Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA fought back to draw 2-2 with Tobago United at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet.

At the Marvin Lee Stadium, veteran Guyanese forward Randolph Jerome put Starworld in front after 24 minutes but Brazilian Phanor Gonzales replied for the hosts in the 63rd minute.

Jamaican Wolry Wolfe got a crucial item for Joe Public in the 89th while Gonzales’ second strike in stoppage time sealed his team’s sixth win of the season.

Shandel Samuel’s double, in the 13th and 60th minutes, gave North East a 2-0 cushion, and the lads from Sangre Grande withstood a late surge from Connection, whose captain Earl Jean found the back of the net in the 82nd.

Akil Pierre continued his rich vein of form as he got the lone strike for the Army-Coast Guard combination, in the 58th minute, as they earned full points after the season’s debutants Rangers.

At the sister isle Tobago, the hosts held a comfortable 2-0 lead within the first half-hour, courtesy goals from Noel Williams (21st) and Keon Samuel (24th) before Trinidad and Tobago Under-21 midfielder Kendall Jagdeosingh pulled one back in the 31st.

Ex-national forward Nigel Pierre equalised for Caledonia in the 41st, leaving both teams with a share of the points.
