Lawyer in Germany, case put off
When the case was called before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Court, both defence attorneys — Ian Gray and Keith Beckles — were not in court.
State prosecutor, Chris Seelochan, told the magistrate that Gray, who is on vacation leave, was currently in Germany for the World Cup match.
Seelochan told the court that Beckles had indicated to him that he was unable to attend the inquiry yesterday because of his (Beckles’) engagement in a murder trial in the High Court.
However, with respect to Gray’s absence, Seelochan told Wellington that the attorney had told him that he had gone to Germany to attend the World Cup football games.
Wellington granted a request that the inquiry be adjourned to July 12. The final World Cup match is on July 9.
Charged with four-year-old Singh’s kidnapping are Kimberly Moonsammy, 22, of Jarvis Street, San Fernando; Jonathan Moonsammy, 24, and Colleen Osbourne, 22, both of Pleasantville.
Singh was abducted from the Giselle’s Montessori at Archibald Street, Vistabella, on June 3, 2004.
The girl was found wandering at Pluck Road, Siparia three days later.
