Approval for Assessment Centres

Association secretary Trevor Oliver made this announcement via a release issued yesterday and said this news comes at an ideal time because approximately 50 to 60 percent of principals in schools throughout the country, are in acting positions, for as many as four or five years.

The establishment of these centres are expected to aid in the acceleration of appointments of school officials including heads of department, senior teachers, deans of discipline as well as principals.

Oliver also stated that operations of the Performance Management Appraisal Process(PMAP) can now be underway as “middle management officials” which are senior teachers, deans of discipline and heads of department can finally be appointed.

The PMAP is a developmental tool designed to improve teachers’ performance by raising levels of productivity and efficiency which will “ensure improved quality student learning outcomes.”

The financing of these centres has been an issue between the Association and the government for the past six months.

The Assistant Secretary thanked the government for listening to the appeals of the principals of the association.
