2 children escape from fire

DISASTER was averted early Saturday morning when Debbie Hills woke up from her  sleep,   to see that two of her appliances  had caught fire. An electrical fault has been blamed for the mishap.

According to reports, around 3.24 am, while in the bedroom of her two-storey Edinburgh Crescent apartment in Cocoyea, she heard loud crackling sounds coming from the living room. When Hills investigated she found her clock radio and electric lamp alight on a wooden table with the table cloth on the surface. She acted quickly by throwing both appliances through a side window of the house. Hill sustained minor injuries. Her two  children who were asleep at the time, Thorn Hill, two-years-old and Carifa Hill, seven, were not injured. A team of fire officers from the nearby Mon Repos Fire Station including Fire Sub Officer (FSO)  Benjamin and Ag FSO Gopaul visited the scene. After investigations they concluded that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Damages were estimated at just over $1,500 .
