Ag CoP gets report on girl’s shooting
A REPORT on Wednesday’s shooting of 13-year-old schoolgirl Daniella Carrington was submitted yesterday to Ag Police Commissioner Everald Snaggs. The report was prepared by the investigator Cpl Hobbs of the St Joseph CID. Checks with the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex revealed that Daniella was moved from the ICU to the Hibiscus Suite on Wednesday night. She is now in stable condition, and her life is out of danger. The 9 mm gun, which was seized after the shooting, was still lodged at the St Joseph Police Station yesterday. Owner of the gun Pete Carrington gave a statement to the police on Wednesday. He said he left his loaded 9 mm gun in his van parked at Camelot townhouses in Valsayn and went to pick up another friend.
A seven-year-old boy who was seated in the van reportedly saw the gun and picked it up. The gun was accidentally fired and struck Daniella in the head. The girl was rushed to the EWMSC where she underwent emergency surgery. Carrington was quizzed at the St Joseph Police Station and allowed to leave. Investigators questioned Carrington as to why the gun was left in the van unsecured. The file is expected to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for directions in the matter. When contacted by telephone yesterday, relatives of the injured girl refused to comment on the matter.
