Coaches complete certified CONCACAF course

The five-day course took place from March 10-15 and was conducted by FIFA Instructor and member of the FIFA Technical Committee, Alvin Corneal.

Corneal explained that the course was designed to introduce new material to the various stakeholders while at the same time introducing new techniques aimed at improving the execution and management of the game. “The course concentrated on an in-depth understanding of team play, tactical formations, development strategy and the quality of play with or without the ball.

“The concept of scientific methods in training programmes for a team was also explored thoroughly,” Corneal said. He explained further that the course combined theory with practical knowledge and as a result all participants attended the CONCACAF Under-20 qualifiers which was contested at the Marvin Lee Stadium, where they assessed the various matches. CONCACAF president Jack Austin Warner praised the participants and course administrators for their effort in improving the coaching aspect of the game regionally.

“We are not going to rely too much on outside assistance and this does not mean that we are not going to embrace outside influence, especially from England and Brazil, maybe we, in the Caribbean do not possess the level of resources as compared to our bigger counterparts, but the time is coming to look within yourself and use the resources that you are afforded,” Warner advised.
