Police shoot bandit
A BANDIT was shot by police early yesterday morning after he reportedly pulled a knife at an officer from the St Joseph Police Station, police said.
The wounded man, who is said to be in his 30s and from the San Juan area, was shot in the left leg and was up to late evening warded under police guard at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. According to Northern Division police, Ellis Blades, of Sagan Drive, Champs Fleurs, was awakened by a noise in his yard around 2.10 am yesterday. When Blades investigated, police said he saw a man attempting to remove a louvre pane. Blades is reported to have contacted the St Joseph Police Station after which a party of officers responded in a short period.
When the officers got there, police said the officers called out to a man, who then ran and jumped a wall. The police cornered him and he reportedly pulled out a knife and threatened an officer. A shot was then fired at the man, who received a single bullet to his left leg. The man, who police said is well known to them, was taken to the city hospital. A party of officers under Supt Leon Anthony and ASP Khan visited the scene and conducted investigations. ASP Khan is continuing the probe.
