Banks, Jacobs for Caricom double-wicket
IN celebration of 30 years of Caricom and with the support of regional insurance giants CLICO, the first ever Caribbean Double-wicket Championship will be played on Saturday and Sunday in St Kitts. Several West Indies players including wicketkeeper Ridley Jacobs and off-spinner Omari Banks will feature in the event which carries a purse of US$10,000. Winners will get US$5,000 and all matches will be of four overs duration. St Kitts has been selected as the host island because Caricom Day on Friday, coincides with the 75th anniversary of Warner Park, the island’s main cricketing venue. It will be the first time Kittitians will be seeing some of their West Indies stars. All Sports Promotions, a Trinidad and Tobago sports management company will organise the event. Ricardo Paty of Queen’s Park and Richard Kelly of Ceramic Merryboys will represent Trinidad and Tobago. The double-wicket will close with a banquet at the St. Kitts Marriot Hotel on Saturday. And world record wicket-taker Courtney Walsh will present awards at the prize-giving ceremony.
