Jabloteh rout SWIF 6-1
CL FINANCIAL San Juan Jabloteh maintained their lead in the T&T Pro League after ninth round action yesterday. The defending league champs inflicted a 6-1 hammering on South West Institute of Football (SWIF) at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. W Connection remained in second spot on the standings after edging South Starworld Strikers 2-1 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Former Connection midfielder Marc Borde gave Starworld the early initiative, courtesy of a 25th minute penalty, but prolific striker, Kittitian George Isaac equalised for Connection in the 67th. Both teams tried valiantly for the go-ahead goal, with national midfielder Arnold Dwarika hitting the winner five minutes from full time.
North East Stars won their second successive encounter, beating Arima Fire 3-1 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Arima. Striker Handel Manswell converted a 20th minute free-kick to give the firemen the early advantage but goals from Kern Thomas, Sherwin Lee and Randolph Jerome ensured that the Sangre Grande-based team walked away with full points. Joe Public were pushed to the limit by Caledonia AIA at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya. The “Eastern Lions” twice came from a goal down to draw 2-2 against the struggling “Stallions”. And Tobago United were facing the resurgent Defence Force in a late encounter at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet.
