Tigers edge Fatima 1-0
ST ANTHONY’S rediscovered their winning ways, albeit a narrow 1-0 result over Fatima in the North Zone of the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday. Midfielder Kevon Neaves silenced the partisan crowd at Fatima Grounds with a strike which gave the “Westmoorings Tigers” full points, following their shock 1-0 defeat by QRC on Thursday last. The “Dial Dynamos” Arima continue to hold the lead in the East despite being held to a goalless draw by Barataria at Barataria Grounds. On an uneven surface, Arima striker Gorean “Mickey Rat” Highley saw his 27th minute header hit the bar. St Augustine kept up their challenge with a 2-0 win over Hillview at Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, Tunapuna, while San Juan won for the first time this season, beating St George’s 4-1 at Bourg Mulatresse.
In the South Zone, Presentation San Fernando earned their first win of the season, defeating St Benedict’s 1-0 in the first match of a double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Defending champs Princes Town were held to a 0-0 draw by Pleasantville at the Princes Town Grounds, while Mayaro with goals from Andy Hagley, Carlon Hughes and Simeon Augustus, squeezed past Vessigny 3-2 at the Mahaica Oval. Marlon Saunders and Shevhon Abraham were on target for the hosts. An 85th minute penalty from Kenol Singh was enough for hosts Tabaquite to edge leaders Carapichaima 1-0 in the Central Zone. And, in the sister-isle Tobago, Scarborough got a double from Keon Morris to shut-out winless Bishop’s 2-0, while Signal Hill swamped Elizabeth’s 11-0 at Shaw Park. Keno Procter got a hat-trick, while Keon Daniel, Jason Lightbourne, Jerome Toby and Massimba George scored two goals each.
