Shooting coach Thomas gets C’wealth award
Brent Thomas, National Rifle Association (US), ISSF Coach and the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee’s Sports Personality of the Year has been nominated for a Commonwealth Award for his work as a sport administrator.
Thomas yesterday expressed pleasure at being acknowledged at the ceremony to be staged in Glasgow, Scotland this weekend. He leaves tomorrow to accept the award and describes it as an honour for his 26 years of service to the sport including ten years as a coach. Thomas said the lack of support for sports in this country has not daunted him once during his long spell and the nomination for the award has served to raise his spirit and hopes for the future of his discipline in Trinidad and Tobago. He is TT’s representative to the International Shooting Coaching Association and has trained CAC gold and silver medallists, top ten Commonwealth and Pan American Games shooters. Among his students is Defence Force shooter Roger Daniel, currently ranked among the world’s top 20 shooters. The successful coach believes that with better, facilities and increased government and corporate support, Trinidad and Tobago can produce better performances worldwide and especially at the Olympic Games.
