Two-day b-ball clinic at UWI
UWI Sports and Physical Education Centre in collaboration with Basketball Worldwide will host a two-day basketball officials clinic. This clinic will take place on October 11 and 12 at the UWI centre at St Augustine. Participants will be instructed by top-level United States officials Andre Webb and Phil Henderson, along the lines of Federation of International Basketball Associations rules, current officiating topics, techniques and philosophies. The clinic will be open for 50 officials throughout Trinidad and Tobago, and already the Trinidad and Tobago Schools’ Basketball Association have selected 20 to attend. Cost of this clinic is $240 which covers official shirts, handbooks meals and certificates of completion. Clinic instructor Webb is founder and director of The Right Call Officiating Agency in North Carolina, and has been an officiating instructor for over six years. He is currently head basketball coach at North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham.
And Henderson, who was here in August for the Millennium Basketball Academy, is founder/president of Basketball Worldwide and a former US High School All-American and Dallas Maverick guard in the NBA. Meanwhile, the second Millennium Basketball Academy was deemed a tremendous success. Among the technical staff were Henderson, George Freeberyser and Leonard Cooper, along with technical director and ex-national coach Joseph “Lenny” Guy, Albert Lee Young, Lennox Sobers, Learie Sandy, Herdis Lewis and Anthony Tannis, ex-national captain. After a five-day camp for approximately 70 boys and girls aged seven to 17 which followed at the Maloney Indoor Arena and Jean Pierre Complex, ten-year-old Joel Hinds was voted Most Outstanding Player.
