Gayle powers Jamaica past Windwards

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica: West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle blasted an unbeaten 72 to lead Jamaica past Windward Islands in their Zone A  Red Stripe Bowl match at the Alpart Sports Club yesterday. And young opener Brenton Parchment supported with an unbeaten 33. After taking two Windward Islands wickets for 26 runs, the left-handed Gayle smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground in his hard-hitting whirlwind innings.  The Windward Islands, electing to bat first, were bundled out  for 146. Jerome Taylor, the 19-year-old West Indies rookie pacer, bothered the Windwards batsmen and led the Jamaica bowling with four for 23 from nine overs. St Lucian all-rounder Darren Sammy, batting at number seven, rescued the Windwards from complete disaster with a resistant 48. Score: WINDWARDS 146 (46 overs), Darren Sammy 48, Junior Murray 30, Jerome Taylor 4/23, Chris Gayle 2/26, Darren Powell 2/33.
