TTCB member urges careful thinking before voting

TRINIDAD and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) executive member Patrick Rampersad is calling on his colleagues to think carefully before casting their vote at the board’s 47th annual general meeting on October 25 at the National Cricket Centre (NCC). Speaking to members of the Valleyboys Cricket Club at their 2003 prize-distribution ceremony in Lengua, Rampersad said: “We need to take a close look at those presenting themselves and vote for the person who will serve cricket in Trinidad and Tobago to the best of their ability. “Cricket needs to have good governance in Trinidad and Tobago and so far the board headed by Alloy Lequay has been doing an excellent job in moving the game forward. “You just have to look at the performances of the national Under-19 and Under-15 teams and you would see.”

Trinidad and Tobago have won the regional Under-15 title three times in the past four years, while the Under-19s recently achieved an unprecedenteed double in the Under-19 age group, winning both league and limited overs titles. Rampersad blamed over-confidence and lack of commitment as the reasons behind the failure of the national senior team winning the league title since 1985. “As soon as these guys get their names on the press they feel they are the best thing on earth and this is the start of their problem.” Rampersad who is also president of  national club champions Merryboys Cricket Club said  he would like to see veteran administrators in Trinidad and Tobago honoured for their contributions to the sport. “People like Frankie Khan who has toiled in the vineyards for many years must be rewarded, as these are the people who have done so much to have the game where it is today.” Khan is president of  South East team Valleyboys Cricket Club.
