18 teams in national b-ball

The National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago have held their first meeting with the 18 teams involved in the revamped National Basketball Cham-pionships.

At the meeting last Wednesday at the St Paul’s Street Indoor Sport Facility in Port-of-Spain the federation’s executive spoke with team representatives about the league’s constitution, match structure, club responsibilities and the general conduct of the championship. The league will start in two groups of five for the men and four among the women. The top two teams in each group will advance to the Big Four semi-finals with the finals, a best of three series to crown the men’s and women’s national champions.

The teams involved in the inaugural season are:
Men:
Group “A” —- UTC Maloney Pacers (East), Detour Shaq Attack (North), Stings (Pt Fortin), Top Shotters (Tobago) and Marabella Raptors (South).
Group “B” —- NFM (North), Seattle (Tobago), Casa Grande Sangre Grande All Stars (East), Cap-de-Ville Hoppers (Pt Fortin) and Edinburgh 500 Hawks (Central).
Women:
Group “A” —- Unit Trust Maloney Pacers (East), Courts Horizon (North), Brian Chase Academy (East) and Seattle (Tobago).
Group “B” — Defence Force (North), Courts Hillbouncers (Tobago), Malick Tigers (East) and Police (East).
The next meeting is scheduled for tomorrow from 6 pm at the same venue.
