Gons face Standard in ‘Fyzo’ football

GONS will put their unbeaten tag on the line when they meet Standard SC in a top-of-the-table clash in the Fyzabad Community Football League today.

The action takes place on Standard Recreation Ground, Standard Gate, Siparia Road from 4.30 pm. While Standard SC will have home advantage, Gons must fancy their chances after their 5-2 victory over New Comers at the Petrotrin Fyzabad Recreation ground on Thursday last. Marquis Alexander opened the scoring in the fourth minute and completed a double in the 47th, while Raul Francois shot home in the 12th to give Gons a 2-1 half-time lead. Atiba Forde reduced the deficit for New Comers in the 32nd minute, but Dane Francis restored the Gons three-goal lead when he found the nets in the 58th. Martin Jordan scored in the 61st to renew New Comers hopes, but Francois got his second of the match in the 66th minute, to ice the victory for Gons. Oropouche also kept their unbeaten record when Marlon McLeod’s 69th minute strike was enough to give them a 1-0 victory over Avocat United at the same venue on Sunday.
