Govia guides Parkites to big hockey victory
NICHOLAS GOVIA hit the backboard three times, Gary Griffith had a double and Anthony Williams and Robert Mouttet added one each for Queen’s Park to slam Malvern 7-3 in their Veterans Division match in the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Federation National Indoor Championship.
Govia opened the scoring in the third minute of Sunday’s action at the Woodbrook Youth Facility, and rattled in two more in the 6th and 10th. Griffith scored in the fifth and eighth minutes, while Williams got his goals in the 12th and Mouttet the 14th. Albert Marcano scored a hat-trick for Malvern, all off penalty corners in the 11th, 16th and 22nd minutes. And in the men Open Division, the Parkites romped to a 6-2 victory over Carib, with Ronald de Silva and Griffith scoring doubles, while the other goals came from Robert Mouttet and Nicholas Govia. Ronald Ramsammy got both for the Brewery Boys. Paragon routed Paradise 8-1 in another match, with Terence Campbell scoring four goals, Wayne Legerton three and Dillet Gilkes the other. Ronnie Chandler got the only goal for the Tobagonians. Daniel Young and Ryan Marchock each scored twice, while Lee Yum Tom Pack and Dominic Young got the other goals in a 6-3 Chinese victory over Carib. Nigel Simon got a double and Ronald Ramsammy the third for Carib. Malvern with four goals from Albert Marcano and one more from Damien Gordon whipped Paradise 5-1. Neville Roach got the consolation.
In women’s action, Malvern dumped Paragon 9-4 with ace national striker Oire Trotman and Liselle Parris scoring hat-tricks. Sherlan Cabralis, Brigid Poon-Lewis and Rebekah Carty got one each, while Kristin Thompson and Grace Cupid scored doubles for Paragon. St Mary’s swamped Fatima 9-0 in the School Boys Division, with Adam Johnston scoring four goals, Luke Govia and Stefan Luces two each and Shane Trestrail the other.But QRC embarrassed St Anthony’s 14-0 on six goals from Mahinder Malli, four from Chesterfield Sealy, two from Nigel Noel and one each from Nasario Clarke and Josah Soon Hoon.And among the girls, Bishop Anstey shut out Corpus Christi 5-0, with Kathleen Calliste scoring twice and Giselle Charles, Arielle Will-iams and Rashida Alexander getting the other goals.
