Here comes Brigadier Peter Joseph
WHO is Peter Joseph, former Colonel now Brigadier? Joseph is now in charge of a new special crime fighting unit that will be able to utilise manpower from other protective services in the country, including the Police, Regiment, Fire Services, Prisons, Coast Guard, Volunteer Defence Force and also the civilian population.
The unit was revealed by Prime Minister Patrick Manning as he delivered the 2003-2004 Budget presentation in Parliament. Joseph has been commanding officer of the Regiment until yesterday’s promotion at which he received his new pips from President George Maxwell Richards. At the time of his promotion, Joseph was acting as Chief of Defence Staff as CDS Brigadier Ancil Antoine, is out of the country on vacation. With Joseph’s elevation and Antoine’s absence, two Colonels have now been put in the position to act as CDS. Colonel Dave Williams, who is attached to NEMA, is the most senior. The other is Colonel Eddie Dillon, who has been acting as commanding officer of the Regiment in Antoine’s absence. Up to press time, word from Defence Force Headquarters in Chaguaramas was that Joseph was expected to settle in to his new post “without fuss, continuing to lead the country’s armed forces... a normal day in the life of the regiment.” Brigadier Peter Joseph enlisted in the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment in 1975. He completed his officer cadet training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, graduating as the top student in his intake.
