Sando mayor launches Project Strong

Mayor of San Fernando, Ian Atherly  delivered the feature address to launch Project Strong at the Petrotrin Pointe-a-Pierre Club recently.

Mayor Atherly urged the youngsters in attendance to make use of opportunities with which they were being presented. He said almost anything could be achieved with persistence and the right attitude. Project Strong is a rehabilitation programme that uses sports as a medium to empower youths to make positive changes in their lives. Its target group is young first-time offenders and it is designed to help reduce the level of crime among youths. Petrotrin is the major sponsor with the Trinidad and Tobago Alliance for Sports and Physical Education and Probation Department, facilitators of the programme. Also at the launch were chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago Alliance for Sports and Physical Education, Mark Mungal; programme coordinator Thao Nguyen; Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs Officer, Howard Spencer; and Canadian Sports Development Official, Lester Osuna.
