Goshin-do karatekas return with medals
A YOUNG Trinidad and Tobago team recently returned from Venezuela where they registered several outstanding performances in an international martial arts competition.
They were under the supervision of Chief Instructor Anthony Sydney of the Goshin-do Karate Dojo taking part in the Kuniba Kai International South American Karate Championship in Maracay. The six member team collected one silver and five bronze medals in the championships which involved 1,500 karatekas from the USA, Mexico, Japan, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela. The contest was also attended by the President and Vice-President of the Venezuelan Karate Federation and Soke Kozo Kuniba Head of Kuniba Kai International based in Japan.
The medallists were: Marc Sydney, silver in the 13-15 Black Belt Kata; Dale Hinds, bronze in the Black Belt Kumite (fighting); Daniel Baptiste, bronze in the 13-15 Intermediate Kumite; Kizey Sirju in the 11-12 Novice Kumite; Riaz Nabbie in the 11-12 Intermediate Kata; and Shane Khan in the 7-8 Novice Kata.
