Lara face and voice of TSTT
WEST Indies batting star Brian Lara has been introduced as the new face and voice of TSTT.
Making the announcement on Tuesday was Sam Martin Chief Executive Officer of TSTT at a media conference hosted in the Ballroom of Hilton Trinidad in Port-of-Spain. In attendance were Christian Mouttet, Chairman of TSTT; Lisa Agard, Executive Vice-President Legal, Regulatory and Public Policy, Cable and Wireles (West Indies); and Rae Ann Harper-Walters, Corporate Communications Manager, TSTT. Although financial details of the two-year contract were not disclosed, TSTT will pay Lara for his association and will cover the West Indies captain’s telecommunications services up to the maximum of $55,000 per year. This will include costs for fixed lines, mobile and Internet services, Martin said.
In return Lara, holder of two world batting records, will feature in TSTT’s print, radio and television advertisements for the company’s corporate and mobile services as well as participate in a number of staff elated events. “I am sure Brian will agree, that this is indeed a formidable alliance, one that has its roots in the pure grit that is needed to be a success in one’s chosen field. I have a feeling that it is a good time for both Brian and TSTT to grow and to take our performance to another level,” said Martin. He outlined the great progress that TSTT have made recently including 330,000 wire-line and 450,000 mobile customers, the latter described as “explosive growth” from 47,000 in 1995. Lara said he was very happy to be part of the partnership which comes at a crucial time in the history of West Indies cricket when the team has been regaining the trust of the Caribbean people. “I am happy to be associated with TSTT who no doubt have deliberated for a long time before coming to their decision and I look forward to an ambassadorial role with the compay in the future,” said Lara.
Lisa Agard, who was complimented by CEO Martin for her role in clinching the deal with the world’s top rated batsman, said Cable and Wireless and West Indies cricket share a special relationship dating back to 1986. “The financial sponsorship of West indies cricket ensures that the board can plan with confidence and continue to develop the game and their players within the region. Cable and Wireless are pleased to be able to provide this support,” said Agard. She said she looked forward to the success of the West Indies team in South Africa later this year when she hopes to be present to see some of the action “live” during the Christmas holidays.
