Signal Hill dethrone Scarborough in Tobago

SIGNAL HILL denied Scarborough a three-peat when they won their top-of-the-table clash 4-0 to claim the Tobago Zone of the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) yesterday. In the second of back-to-back fixtures at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Signal Hill got a double from Keon Daniel, including a penalty, while Massimba George and Jason Lightbourne chipped in with a goal apiece as the victors ended the Zone Championship unbeaten. Roxborough finished the season in third spot after a 4-0 triumph over the cellar-placed Bishop’s in the earlier match at Bacolet. Newly-crowned South Zone winners Naparima showed no mercy on bottom-placed Presentation San Fernando, registering a 5-0 win courtesy of a hat-trick from Kern Robinson and a double from Ancil Farrier at Union Hall while dethroned champs Princes Town edged Mayaro 2-1 at the Mayaro Recreation Ground.

A pair from Shorn Quashie and one each from Jason Gross and Kerwyn Baptiste gave Fyzabad a 4-2 victory over Vessigny in the first match of a double-header at Skinner Park, with Guymo Harper and Theon Thomas scoring for Vessigny. And Deron Matthews netted all three to give Pleasantville a 3-0 win over St Benedict’s in the other match at the San Fernando venue. Rain forced the cancellation of three North Zone matches — leaders St Anthony’s matchup against Diego Martin, Mucurapo versus St Mary’s at the Fatima Grounds and the Malick-Fatima clash at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. QRC stayed in contention for the zonal crown after inflicting a 5-2 beating on Morvant/ Laventille at the QRC Grounds, St Clair. And San Juan moved from the bottom spot with a 3-1 victory over Hillview at the Marvin Lee Stadium - Ayinde George, Elija Manner and Cyril Elwin scoring for the Bourg Mulatresse lads while Stephan George got the consolation for Hillview. Presentation climbed back to the top of the Central Zone with a 1-0 win over Union Claxton Bay at the Presentation Grounds. Dwayne De Four got the lone strike for Pres who need only a draw in their final match against Carapichaima on Tuesday to retain their zone crown. And Tabaquite sealed third place after thrashing Chaguanas 7-1 at the Chaguanas Grounds. Renaldo Fraser and Ryan Ali helped themselves to a hat-trick apiece with Alpha Rodriguez adding the other while R Kavalo got the lone item for the hosts.
