Coach Francis dies

TOP local asthletics coach Hubert Francis is dead.

The man who was at the helm of the Trinidad and Tobago team at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada, when Hasely Crawford won gold in the 100 metres, died on Friday last. And his funeral services will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday. Francis was a lecturer in languages at St Mary’s College and a life member of the National Amateur Athletic Association. He was also president of Hampton Athletic Club, which produced several top local athletes. NAAA president Ken Doldron said yesterday, Francis will be sadly missed in local athletics. And on behalf of himself , the NAAA and the athletic fraternity, he sent condolences to Francis’ family.
