TT karateka gets bronze

AHEAD of the Pan American Karate Championships Trinidad and Tobago’s Kim Ngui of Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation of Trinidad and Tobago (SKIFTT) claimed a bronze medal at the eighth SKIF World Karate Championships in Durban, South Africa.

With the Trinidad and Tobago kata team of Ngui, Lauren Thomas-Henry and Cindy Guevara-Sammy missing the bronze by point one (.1) of a point after a superb performance,  Ngui was tied for second in the individual competition before having to take part in a playoff. Competing against 50 countries across five continents,  the Trinidad and Tobago  team which comprised head coach, referee and judge Neville Mason, Lauren Thomas-Henry, Kim Ngui, Cindy Guevara Sammy and Lorna Skinner, distinguished themselves and left a very favourable impression on fans. The Pan American Championships are scheduled for April 2004, while the next SKIF World Tournament takes place in Japan 2006.
