Murray gets backing of QRC ‘Old Boys’
DERYCK MURRAY is being supported by the Queen’s Royal College (QRC) Old Boys Association, in his quest for the presidency of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board.
A motion to this effect was accepted at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association, held last Friday. The Management Committee with Patrick Rabathaly as president and Justice Rolston Nelson as vice-president, along with other members of the committee, was retained, except for one retiring member who was replaced by Anthony Whitehall. The annual dinner and second Induction Ceremony of the QRC Hall of Honour will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain, on Saturday, November 8. Murray, a former West Indies wicketkeeper has thrown his hat into the ring to succeed Alloy Lequay who is standing down as president of the TTCB.
Strongly tipped to replace Lequay is first vice-president Ellis Lewis who has the support of Lequay and the majority of affiliates of the board.
However Murray is enjoying some support especially among the North Zone clubs and a battle royale is developing for the elections on October 25 at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre in Balmain, Couva. Murray is a former Director of the Centre who resigned his post to take up a senior position at Guardian Holdings Limited after one year of his three-year contract. Since Murray announced his intention to bid for the top job in local cricket a war of words has erupted between Lequay and Murray.
