New Pro League round kicks off

W CONNECTION will be looking to narrow the gap with leaders CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh when Round 22 of the TT Pro League kicks off today.

Jabloteh, the defending champs, have 54 points, six more than Connection. But the Savonetta lads can reduce the deficit to three points with victory over the inconsistent Joe Public at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Balmain, Couva. The sixth-placed “Eastern Lions” have a tally of 26 points from 20 matches, including 11 drawn results. But the youthful squad will have a tough task against a Connection unit that has only lost once in their 21 appearances this season. The Jabloteh squad are almost guaranteed full points at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima tomorrow against the struggling Arima Fire.

Today’s main encounter will take place at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo with third-placed North East Stars meeting Defence Force. The strike pair of ex-national standout Jerren Nixon and Guyanese Randolph Jerome have terrorised defences for the past month, and the Army-Coast Guard outfit will have their hands full against the league’s most improved squad. South Starworld Strikers, who are joint fourth with Defence Force, will travel to the Palo Seco Recreation Ground to meet South West Institute of Football (SWIF) while “the Stallions” Caledonia AIA square off against the bottom-placed Tobago United at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna. All matches begin at 7 pm while the Under-20 fixtures will kick off two hours earlier.
