Tigers prowl to North Zone title

STRIKER ABIOLA Sandy was the hero for St Anthony’s as they claimed their third successive British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) North Zone title yesterday. Needing only a draw against Diego Martin to secure the zonal crown, the “Westmoorings Tigers”, with Sandy notching a beaver-trick (four goals), crushed their neighbours 6-0 at the St Anthony’s Grounds. The game was over as a contest by the end of the first half, the Tigers having a 3-0 cushion, with Sandy scoring in the 2nd and 40th minutes and midfielder Troy Thompson in the 9th.

Kevon Neaves netted the Tigers’ fourth goal in the 52nd after receiving a long ball from Thompson, the midfielder tapped home past Diego’s goalkeeper Atiba Thomas on a one-and-one opportunity. Sandy got his third goal  in the 63rd, with a diving header from a Christian Cabral centre, and completed the rout 10 minutes from time, rifling his shot past Thomas after collecting a diagonal pass from Kareem Freitas. Mucurapo was held to a goalless draw by St Mary’s at the Fatima College Grounds, while Fatima edged Malick 2-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo also yesterday. And the South Zone came to an end yesterday with Mayaro finishing  in fourth spot after trouncing Vessigny  4-1 at the Mayaro Recreation Grounds.
