Jabloteh extinguish Fire 5-1

A HAT-TRICK from national striker Cornell Glen and a pair from fellow Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Kerry Baptiste gave CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh a 5-1 win over Arima Fire in their 22nd round clash of the TT Pro League.

The league leaders overcame an early setback to record their 18th win of the season at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Arima on Thursday night. After Tobago-born striker Ashford Legerton gave the firemen a shock 23rd minute lead, the Jabloteh squad regrouped in quick time, with Glen getting the equaliser in the 29th. The fleet-footed striker put Jabloteh in front three minutes later, and the 21-year-old completed his hat-trick in the 51st. But Fire’s misery was not yet over, as Baptiste got in the act, scoring in the 65th and 87th minutes to extend Jabloteh’s lead over W Connection in the standings to six points.

Jabloteh will be seeking their second win in as many days when they oppose sixth-placed Joe Public at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo tonight from 7 pm. Four matches are carded for tomorrow from 4 pm, with runners-up W Connection hosting third-placed North East Stars at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Balmain, Couva; while Defence Force and South Starworld Strikers, who share fourth spot with 32 points, will meet at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. At the bottom half of the table, cellar-placed Tobago United welcome Arima Fire to the Roxborough Sporting Complex while the “Stallions” Caledonia AIA meet South West Institute of Football (SWIF) at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna.
