San Juan Sports go for windball cricket double
Having already secured the national knockout title, San Juan Sports will be going after Blockmasters in the semi-finals of the league competition in the Sunshine Frosted Flakes windball cricket series tomorrow at Constantine Park, Tunapuna.
Last weekend San Juan hammered Ramsingh Savi in the knockout finals at Grand Slam Park, Marabella. If they get past Blockmasters in the best of three series they will qualify for the $30,000 finals and a chance of repeating as the kings of local cricket. In the other semi-final, King’s XI who have been turned back in the finals before and Flames will do battle. Flames are the only team to have defeated San Juan Sports this season. In the National Division One competition, Audio Xpertz will come up against Couva arch-rivals Old Road Sports. Paradigm of Diego Martin will contest the other semi-final against south champions Demolition. Demolition have been in tremendous touch this season and all-rounder Nicholas Ramphal has been dominating all the matches to date. In the national women’s competition, 2002 champions Desert United of Tunapuna come up against 1999 and 2000 champions Rebirth. The other semi-final will pit Mayaro Bomb Squad against last year’s finalists Queen’s XI. Peter Pola Bear, the mascot of sponsors Universal Foods will make an appearance at 9.30 am before the action gets underway.
