Roach gives Patna close t-tennis victory

Khellon Roach steered Patna to the closest win on the first of the two-day Petrotrin National Table Tennis Team Tournament when he dispatched Naresh Jodhan 11-9, 4-11, 10, 12, 11-8, 11-9 at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo yesterday. Earlier Jodhan playing for Oxford Club beat Patna captain Sanga Quamina 2-11, 11-7, 10-12, 9-11. But Roach, a talented junior national player intervened to give Patna a 3-2 win. The day featured a unique mixture of experience and youth that made for a good competitive atmosphere. A total of 21 teams took to competition on eight tables vying for first and second places in their groups going into the battle for the top places today at the same venue.

With two points being rewarded for a win and one for a loss the Men’s Division One (Group One) remains close with Hawks and Union Claxton Bay (UCB) on four points from two matches. Patna are close behind on three points from two fixtures; Oxford is on two points from three and Crusaders “B” had three from three. In the Women’s Division, D’Abadie Crusaders and Gladiators “A” are on six points each, all unbeaten in their two fixtures; Conquerors have three points from two matches and Gladiators “B” are on three from three.

Group 1: 1.Hawks A defeated Crusaders B 3-0, 2.UCB defeated Patna “A” 3-0, 3.Patna defeated Crusaders B 3-0, 4.Hawks “A” defeated Oxford “A” 3-0 and UCB defeated Crusaders B 3-1.
Group 2: 1.Dabadie “A” defeated Gladiators 3-2, 2.Crusaders “A” defeated Dabadie “B” 3-0, 3.Gladiators “A” defeated Dabadie “B” 3-2 and 4.Crusaders “A” defeated Hawks B 3-2.
Division 2: 1.Calder Hall defeated St. Mary’s Home 3-1, 2.Calder Hall defeated QRC 3-2, 3.Calder Hall “A” defeated St. Mary’s Home 3-0, 4.Dabadie “C” defeated Calder Hall B 3-1, 5.QRC defeated St. Mary’s Home 3-0 and 6.Calder Hall “A” defeated Dabadie 3-1.
