Samba Xtra Malt eye crown

SAMBA Xtra Malt East San Juan United are just eight points away from snatching the Arthur “Jap” Brown Trophy in the Eastern Football Association.

The San Juan lads were held to a 1-1 draw by Crab Connection at the Aranguez Savannah on Sunday. Dexter Joslyn gave East San Juan the lead, but saw Clevon Raphael grab the equaliser. Now East San Juan have five more matches in which to garner those eight points which will give them the title. Last season’s champs WASA Clean and White virtually surrendered the title when they were held 2-2 by Hearty Foods Bulls at WASA Ground, St. Joseph. Gerard Torres and Kirth Hutchins got goals for the WASA men, while Anselm Coa and Larry Raymond netted for the Bulls.

Carib FC, runners-up last season, were held to a 2-2 draw by Joe Public with Aaron Rapper and Mark Lesley scoring for the Eastern Lions at Squadron Ground, Arouca. Vbilly Deer Scanterbury and Clyde Gill scored for the Brewery Boys. JGS Maloney Two Touch edged TSTT 1-0 at Maloney Ground on a goal by Dave Alexander. And Athletico Sports Institute smashed East/West Coaching School 4-2 at Five Rivers ground, Arouca. Anthony Peters got a double while Andrew Celestine and Peter Rivers got a goal each for the Institute, while Alvin Guerra and Darnell Julien scored one each for the Coaching School.
