Phantom Menace, Phenomenon fly
Phantom Menace is noted for his staying qualities but showed that he is no slouch when it comes to sprinting. This he did when closing off preparations for Saturday’s Goodwood Racing Service Starter Allowance engagement on the Arima Race Club Day 33 card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima. The Grant Lourenco inmate started at a brisk from the 600-metre marker and when asked to quicken from the top of the straight, answered readily to post 23.78 seconds on the clock at the finish line. Phenomenon has not raced for some time but showed that he has not lost his appetite for the game. Trainer Harriram Gobin’s charge which was highly thought of as a juvenile drilled the last 400 metres of the course in an impressive 22.99 seconds, which proved best on times for the distance yesterday morning. Jattahyu has had a career plagued with injury but the manner in which the five-year-old worked yesterday suggested his new trainer Ian Danglade, has sorted out his problems.
The dark bay covered the same ground in 24.12 seconds. Cold Risk and Brandy also looked going through their paces. The pair completed the last 400 metres of the course in 24.23 seconds, with the blinkered Cold Risk still full of running. Creme Caramel and Nobleman, who hold engagements on both courses, showed readiness over 600 metres. The Patrick De Freitas trainees held together for most of the way before the elder Creme Caramel showed superiority close home. Senor Gucci, Ooze and Blue Reign, and Carnival Messiah were among others to have pleased connections. The American bred trio attached to trainer Shaffique Khan sped over the last 800 metres on the sand in 50.36 seconds, and the 2001 triple crown winner going even better in 48.62 seconds.
