Poll shows Lewis ahead of Murray

With the elections for the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) due on Saturday, a lot of interest has been generated among the local cricket fans. A poll done by a daily newspaper on Monday showed that the cricketing public was behind Deryck Murray for president of the TTCB. However a poll done by Newsday in response to the question “Who will you be voting for and why?” showed Ellis Lewis, Murray’s main challenger in front. The poll showed Lewis ahead with 22 votes as compared to Murray who had 10 votes as of Monday. Five of the voters were undecided and five were unavailable for comment. The people interviewed were the ones that will be voting on Saturday. The majority of the respondents selected Lewis and gave as their reason, 23 years of committed voluntary service from the zone chairman to first vice-president. They indicated that they respected Murray’s credentials as a past player but knew little of his administrative ability.

In any event they said that he was a newcomer who must work within the Board and be promoted on merit and performance as the present officers and executive members have done. Two zone representatives from South Trinidad suggested that even at this stage Murray should withdraw and accept the position of nominated member which he was offered and work within the Board for the benefit of cricket and in due course he can emerge as a leader. Some of those supporting Murray stated that he was the right man for the job and had vast experience in administration. They added that he can take cricket forward in the fastest possible time.
