Clarke takes Agostini A Class golf

JUNIOR golfer Tracey Clarke took the A Class trophy by four strokes in the Agostini Insurance Brokers Women Open at  the St Andrew’s Golf Club. One of only two women  tournaments in Trinidad and Tobago, this year’s competition at the last weekend, attracted participants from Barbados, Tobago and other golf clubs in Trinidad competing in three classes, A, B and C. Clarke ended the first day Saturday on 78, three shots off leader Joanna Bryden on 75, but came back with a round of 76 on Sunday while Bryden fell away to card an 83. Diana Torry finished third with scores of 80 and 79.

Deahana Ramnath had an emphatic victory in the B Class with rounds of 84 and 87 to total 171, winning by nine strokes ahead of runner-up Synthia Nelson with 92 and 88 with Rene Ayoung (91/95) in third. The Tobago pair of Alicia Francois and Dai Pontiflex had first and second in the B Class nett category. With 97 on the second day Zee Mohammed came from being tied with Gillian Knaggs at 104 at the end of the first day to score a 13-shot victory in the C Class gross category. Knaggs finished second on 110 with Tobago golfer Christine Charbonne (109/106) in third. Chris Cape won the C Class nett division with  Zulaika Karim second.
