New TTCB president today

THIS afternoon Alloy Lequay will finally step down to make room for the election of a new president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB).

The TTCB hosts their 47th annual general meeting at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva, today from 2 pm and one of the posts to be filled is that of president. There are two candidates contesting the position, Ellis Lewis and Deryck Murray. The TTCB executive are strongly in support of first vice-president Lewis, while Murray will be looking to the clubs to sway votes in his favour.  Lewis is their preferred choice as they seek to maintain successorship. He has served cricket for many years and has come through the ranks from West Zone right up to his current office. Murray on the other hand is vastly experienced and is anxious to take Trinidad and Tobago cricket forward with new ideas. He pointed out  he does not belong to any slate and will be going up all alone, due to his love of the game.

Although Lequay will be relinquishing the reins of president, he will   however remain as chief executive officer (CEO) of the Board. There will also be elections for the post of general secretary with incumbent Anand Daniel facing a challenge from president of the Secondary Schools Cricket Council (SSCC) Forbes Persaud. National coaching director Baldath Mahabir will lock horns with Lalman Kowlessar as they vie for the position of second vice-president. But the first vice-presidency is expected to go to Dudnath Ramkeesoon, ex-West Indies youth, Trinidad and Tobago skipper and current chairman of the National Cricket League. Making a bid to get on to the national executive are former Test player Suruj Ragoonath, North Zone chairman Don Asgarali and North East Zone member Arjoon Ramlal.
