Powell off to S/Africa after all
KINGSTON, Jamaica: Jamaica and West Indies fast bowler Daren Powell left for South Africa on Wednesday to fulfil a five-month contract with provincial side, Gauteng.
Powell missed his flight on Tuesday and will miss Gauteng’s match on Friday, the day he is scheduled to arrive. Brian Breese, chief executive of Jamaica Cricket Association, told CMC Sports Powell is expected to return to the Caribbean ahead of next year’s Carib Beer West Indies first-class championship. The 25-year-old Powell, who has not been selected for the West Indies tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa, has taken 100 wickets at the regional level and 12 wickets in Tests.
