Lewis has firm grip on cricket

Highly respected executive member of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) Patrick Rampersad said yesterday that newly elected leader Ellis Lewis has a firm grip on what’s needed for the continued development of Trinidad and Tobago’s cricket.

Rampersad spoke to Newsday while relaxing at his home yesterday. ”I am extremely confident in the ability of the new president. I was drawn very close to him over the last three weeks and I am pleased to report that he has a firm grip of what’s needed to be done,” Rampersad said. Lewis defeated lone challenger, former Test wicketkeeper Deryck Murray for the top post at the Board’s 47th annual general meeting at Couva on Saturday.

The affable Lewis polled 30 votes compared to Murray’s 13. Rampersad was returned as an executive member gaining 32 votes out of a possible 43. He added :”I am pleased that the democratic process took place and I am happy to be back on the executive. I will like to congratulate all those who took part in the elections and congratulate more those who won. “I remain committed to Trinidad and Tobago’s cricket and will be willing to work with all those who are interested in the development of the game,” he said.

Fellow executive member Azim Bassarath also came out in praise of Lewis. ”Cricket is in good hands in this country and we have an excellent leader. Ellis is a greater planner and visionary and this is what we need for the development of cricket in this country. “We at the South East Zone would like to congratulate Ellis and wish him all the best during his term. We will be doing all in our power to assist him where necessary as we are all fighting for one cause,” Bassarath said.
